i’m tired of it

I have a confession:  I’m tired of the physical and emotional pain that is prevalent in the world we live in.  Babies losing their life before they’ve taken their first breath, children with inoperable medical conditions, teenagers living in a sex-saturated over-medicated world that beckons them deeper into the darkness, couples finding themselves lonelier in marriage than they did in singleness, families who have no money for food or medical bills or utilities . . . all of these and more I’ve seen in the last week alone and in the face of these examples, I’m reminded of the daily battle we are engaged in.  The battle isn’t always visible but it is real and it is continual.  It is a battle for our minds and our hearts and souls.  It is a battle for our joy.  As followers of Christ, we are called to live our lives on this earth displaying a joy that celebrates in the light and prevails in the dark.  We are called to look past what we see and believe in Who we know.  (1 Thessalonians 5:16-17, James 1:2-4)  Do questions still come?  Yes.  Is loss still experienced?  Yes.  Do tears still flow?  Yes.  But when we choose to shift our attention from our circumstances to our Savior, knowing that only in Him do we find peace and comfort and JOY, we are able to stand strong and say “yet I will rejoice in the LORD, I will be joyful in God my Savior (Habakkuk 3:18) and we can boldly declare that God is good . . . all the time.
